Calum Graham, Jaco Liu, Crossing Strings: guitars
On February 26 and 27, 2027, the Vienna Fingerstyle Festival will celebrate its 17th anniversary. We are delighted that one of Europe’s most renowned jazz clubs, Porgy & Bess, is once again making its stage available for our unique celebration of the acoustic guitar this year. Internationally renowned artists, up-and-coming talents, and audience favorites will enchant visitors with their guitar music over two extraordinary concert evenings. Once again, the Vienna Fingerstyle Festival offers Austrian and international artists a platform to showcase this sophisticated guitar technique to an interested audience. The mix of well-known guitar virtuosos and up-and-coming talents has been a hallmark of the festival for years and is well worth seeing and hearing—not just for die-hard guitar fans.
Artists & Program
On Friday evening, Jon Gomm, Mario Parizek, and Dimitri Lavrentiev will take the stage. British singer-songwriter Jon Gomm was voted the world’s best acoustic guitarist in a 2020 global reader poll conducted by MusicRadar and Guitar World, and he captivates audiences with a guitar style that’s hard to forget. Mario Parizek, a Tyrolean self-taught percussive fingerstyle guitarist, draws the maximum range of sounds from his instrument and has worked his way up from the European street music scene to international stages. Friday’s program kicks off with Dimitri Lavrentiev. This exceptional guitarist, born in Russia and based in Augsburg, moves effortlessly between classical, jazz, and flamenco; he knows better than almost anyone how to entertain his audience with humorous banter, and thus kicks off the 17th edition of the Vienna Fingerstyle Festival.
On the second day of the festival, Calum Graham, Jaco Liu, and Crossing Strings will captivate the audience. Canadian Calum Graham, ranked by Acoustic Guitar Magazine as one of the top 30 guitarists under 30, weaves folk, soul, blues, and jazz into a distinctive sound using acoustic, baritone, and harp guitars. Jaco Liu, one of the most exciting young stars on the international scene, is coming to Vienna: Already a crowd favorite in China for some time, he won the 6th European Guitar Award and blends rock, pop, jazz, and East Asian sounds with breathtaking virtuosity in his original compositions. Saturday’s program kicks off with Crossing Strings, featuring Carina Maria Linder and Markus Schlesinger, who will usher in the festival’s second evening with their blend of classical guitar and fingerstyle.
Let yourself be swept away on a musical journey into the world of the acoustic guitar and look forward to two extraordinary concert evenings.
